Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $32 million to fund long-term care in Saskatchewan.

This was announced during a stop at the Village of St. Ann seniors in Saskatoon.

Trudeau said the funds will finance COVID-19 measures such as safer dining practices, increased cleaning and housekeeping, and enhanced staff screening protocols.

Trudeau said, "Over the past years, I have had the opportunity to speak with many long-term care workers to thank them and listen to their stories about their concerns."

The money will come from the federal long-term care fund. Trudeau was joined by Saskatchewan’s Minister of Seniors, Everett Hindley.

Hindley said, "We appreciate the federal government's support today for the work Saskatchewan has done to improve infection prevention measures and fight long-term care over the past two years."

He said the funds will go to compensate costs incurred during the pandemic as the province worked to limit the spread of COVID-19 in long-term care homes.

Trudeau is scheduled to meet agriculture students from the University of Saskatchewan. He will also meet with researchers from the university’s Vaccine and Infectious Diseases Organization.
