Brandy Swanson, director of the International Gem and Jewelry Show that hosts retail exhibitions at locations across the United States, said the robbery incident occurred in the city of Frasier Park while a Brink security services truck was transporting them to a storage facility.
According to Swanson, the theft included between 25 to 30 jewelry and gemstone cases belonging to 18 individual exhibitors at a show in San Mateo, south of San Francisco, and those goods were on their way to storage before another scheduled display in Pasadena.
No further details were provided regarding the robbery incident, according to what was published by "Sky News" today, Tuesday, July 19, 2022.
Brinks company stated in a press release that the losses do not exceed ten million dollars, while Swanson said their value is close to one hundred million dollars.
To explain this discrepancy, Swanson said that smaller exhibitors tend to underestimate the value of their pieces for insurance due to the high cost of coverage.
She continued that it is unclear how the truck was stolen, and whether tracking devices were installed in the cases or surveillance cameras in the truck or in the area.
