Chinese President Xi Jinping confirmed his complete control over the Chinese Communist Party on Saturday, during a ceremony disrupted by the unexpected exit of his predecessor Hu Jintao due to health reasons, according to official media. Xi also declared victory after the closing ceremony of the political training conference at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, a Soviet-style building with interior decoration dominated by the color red, saying, "Dare to fight for victory." There, the new Central Committee was also revealed, a kind of internal parliament of the party. Four Communist Party leaders, including current Premier Li Keqiang, who will leave his position next March, were no longer listed in the roster published by the official Xinhua News Agency. Also, Chinese officials bowed to Li Zhanshu, Vice Premier Han Zheng, and Wang Yang, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Wang Yang is considered one of the most liberal voices in the party and was favored as the next Premier. According to calculations by Agence France-Presse, this new Central Committee was renewed by 65% compared to the 2017 version, and participants in the conference adopted a resolution to strengthen Xi Jinping's powers. In this context, Xi Jinping is likely to be reappointed as General Secretary of his political formation, as this action should allow the powerful man of Beijing to win an unprecedented third five-year presidential term next March. Furthermore, Agence France-Presse journalists noted that former President Hu Jintao, who appeared weak during the conference, was escorted out during a tightly controlled ceremony. It was clear that against his will, the 79-year-old man, who served as China's president from 2003 to 2013, was pressured by staff to stand up from his seat next to Xi Jinping. After a long radio silence from the official media, Xinhua News Agency confirmed that Hu Jintao was only fatigued.
