The authorities said that 16 people died in southeastern Turkey today, Saturday, when a bus collided with emergency teams and journalists who were gathered at the site of an earlier accident on a highway near the city of Gaziantep.
The regional governor, Dawood Gul, said that among the dead were three firefighters, four paramedics, and drone operators working for a Turkish news agency.
Gul added, speaking from the site of the accident which occurred on a road east of Gaziantep, "At about 10:45 this morning, a passenger bus crashed here."
He added, "While the firefighting team, medical teams, and other colleagues were dealing with the accident, another bus crashed 200 meters behind them. The second bus slipped to this location and hit the first responders and the injured on the ground."
Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said that members of the emergency teams and journalists "lost their lives while performing their duty."
