In recent statements, the elected U.S. president, Donald Trump, renewed his threats to Hamas and the Middle East, asserting that if the Israeli hostages held in Gaza are not released by the time of his inauguration on January 20, a "hell" will break out in the region.
Trump added: "If these hostages are not released by the time I take office, there will be hell to pay."
He noted that he does not want to derail the ongoing negotiations regarding the hostages, but he warned of severe consequences if these negotiations fail.
For his part, Trump’s envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, said, "I will head to Doha today to join the prisoner swap talks - there is good progress, and I hope that by the time President Trump is inaugurated, we will have good news to announce."
On the other hand, Hamas has maintained its demand to end the Israeli attack on Gaza completely as a condition for releasing the detainees, which complicates the negotiations.
These statements come at a sensitive time, as the international community seeks to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza amid escalating tensions and mutual threats between the parties involved.
