Three men from Toronto are facing 85 criminal charges following a lengthy investigation that lasted several months into a cocaine trafficking case in the Greater Toronto Area.
In addition, Halton Police announced that the investigation, which was dubbed "Project Medusa," was led by the police's organized crime unit and concluded on October 17 and 18 with the arrest of the suspects and the execution of four search warrants in the Toronto area.
On the other hand, the searches resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of drugs, including seven kilograms of cocaine, half a kilogram of crystal methamphetamine, half a kilogram of fentanyl, and 678 pills of oxycodone.
The police also seized nine firearms and a total of $60,000 in cash, in addition to a modified Mercedes vehicle used by one of the accused.
The police indicated that the suspects were involved in "the distribution of illegal drugs, particularly cocaine, in the Halton area and surrounding regions within the Greater Toronto Area."
Inspector Dave Stewart said in a press statement: "Project Medusa embodies Halton Regional Police’s steadfast commitment to community safety. Through a thorough investigation that lasted several months, our officers were able to remove nine illegal firearms and a large quantity of illegal drugs from our streets."
He added, "There is no doubt that the success in concluding Project Medusa has made Halton and the Greater Toronto Area a safer place for everyone."
According to the police, Abd al-Wahab Sheikh, 29 years old, faces 65 charges, while Trevor Perrio, 33 years old, faces 19 charges, and Michael Estrada Sousa, 31 years old, faces one charge related to possession of property obtained through crime.
The police confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing, and additional charges are expected to be laid in the future.
