The White House considers the new round of negotiations aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas to have achieved a "promising start" with its resumption on Thursday in Doha, without expecting a quick agreement.
U.S. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said, "Today is a promising start," confirming that the talks began earlier in the Qatari capital with the participation of CIA Director William Burns.
