The police announced that 18 suspects have been arrested and face 150 charges related to a series of home invasions, car thefts, and robberies in the Peel area.
These charges were announced during a press conference in Brampton this morning, Tuesday. During the event, officers reviewed the results of Project Warlock, which was launched in late 2023.
The police stated that the crimes were committed by a group of suspects who were part of a "organized crime network" operating in the Peel area and across the Greater Toronto Area.
The investigation included 17 violent home invasions, armed robberies, and car thefts.
Approximately 12 stolen vehicles worth about $1.2 million were also seized, along with over $55,000 worth of stolen luxury goods.
Investigators said that four prohibited firearms were also seized, some of which can be traced back to the United States.
Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah said, "In some cases, the home raids involved threatening victims with firearms while they were lying in their beds, and that children were also present during some of the violent incidents."
Duraiappah added, "This has changed the lives of some of these families forever."
He noted that in 2024 alone, there were 87 car thefts in the Peel area, a 58 percent increase year-over-year. There were 54 home invasions in Peel in 2024, a 350 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.
