The "Times of Israel" reported that the American presidential candidate Donald Trump expressed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu his desire to end the war in the Gaza Strip if he wins the upcoming elections.

According to informed sources, Trump told Netanyahu during a meeting between them that he hopes to end the war in Gaza upon his return to the White House if he wins the elections. The newspaper noted that Trump had previously announced his desire for a swift victory for Israel in its war against Hamas, but he did not specify a timeline for that.

The sources indicated that Trump expressed this desire for the first time during his hosting of Netanyahu in Florida last July. A former official in his administration stated that Trump did not go into details, as he sees the possibility of allowing some Israeli military activities in Gaza as part of the arrangements to end the war.

For her part, Trump's campaign spokesperson, Caroline Levitt, stated that "Trump's previous leadership brought historic peace to the Middle East, but all progress has regressed due to the weakness of the Biden administration."

She added that "Trump will rearrange the situation and protect Israel again, and he will seek to constrain Iran, pursue terrorists, and stop the bloodshed."

During a rally in Pennsylvania last week, Trump said that "Israel benefited from Netanyahu's disregard for Biden's directives," in an attempt to gain the support of Jewish and Muslim voters by presenting contradictory positions on the conflict in Gaza and Lebanon.

The past weeks have seen a repetition of conversations between Trump and Netanyahu, as they have a close relationship since Trump moved the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem during his presidency.

U.S. President Joe Biden continues to support Israel in its ongoing war against Gaza and Lebanon, while Trump and Harris have pledged to maintain this support.

Since the start of the Israeli aggression on Gaza on October 7, 2023, more than 43,000 Palestinians have been martyred and over 101,510 others injured, with most of the population of the Strip displaced, leading to a widespread humanitarian crisis. In Lebanon, the Israeli campaign has resulted in the deaths of over 2,500 people and displaced more than a million, amid accusations against Israel of committing international violations.
