Karina Gold, the leader of the Liberal Party's parliamentary group, announced her candidacy for the leadership of the Canadian Liberal Party today, Saturday. Gold, who is 37 years old, aims to become the first woman to lead the Liberal Party. She entered Parliament in 2015 and has held multiple ministerial positions, including Minister of Democratic Institutions and Minister of Families.

Gold's announcement comes after Mark Carney, former Governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, officially declared his candidacy for the party leadership last Thursday. Carney, who is 59 years old, has a strong economic background, having held leadership positions in the financial sector, and presents himself as a candidate focused on boosting the Canadian economy.

It is worth noting that Chrystia Freeland, the former Minister of Finance, who was one of Trudeau's closest allies, resigned last December after a dispute over financial policies and criticized Trudeau's leadership. Freeland has not yet announced her intention to run for the party leadership.

The Liberal Party is scheduled to choose its new leader on March 9, following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's announcement of his intention to step down on January 6.
