French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated on Monday evening that the government's decision to ban the abaya in schools aims to defend secularism and the principles of the Republic, while also recalling the terrorist attacks the country witnessed, particularly the murder of teacher Samuel Paty, who was brutally killed by a jihadist near his school.

In an interview with YouTuber "Ogo Decrypt" on his channel, Macron said: "We also live in our society with a minority, with people who change the direction of religion and come to challenge the Republic and secularism."

This statement from the French president came in response to a question posed by the host regarding the government's recent decision to ban the abaya in schools, secondary schools, and institutes.

Macron added: "Sometimes the worst has happened. We cannot act as if a terrorist attack did not occur and that there was no Samuel Paty."

On October 16, 2020, history and geography teacher Samuel Paty (47 years old) was killed in front of his school in the Paris area, stabbed by Chechen Abdullah Anzorov, who beheaded the teacher before being shot by the police.

This teacher was killed days after he showed his students during a lesson on freedom of expression cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. The jihadist said in a recording that he committed his act "in revenge for the Prophet."

Furthermore, the French president continued in his explanation of the justifications for the ban on the abaya, stating: "I am just saying that this system exists."

He added: "It happened because a teacher was giving a lesson about secularism in his class, and then there was an uproar on social media followed by individuals committing the worst."

In response to the host's inquiry, Macron said, "I am not comparing" between acts of terrorism and the attire worn by some Muslim girls.

He added: "I am just telling you that the issue of secularism in our school is a fundamental issue."

Also, in the same interview, Macron stated that he supports conducting "experiments" and "assessments" regarding the wearing of a uniform school attire, indicating that he prefers in this context a "single outfit" as it is "more acceptable" to teenagers.

He explained that "there is the official outfit, and there is also the single outfit. That is, without having a uniform outfit, we can say (to the students) +wear jeans and a shirt and a jacket+."

He also added that "the issue of single attire is, in my opinion, more acceptable and may seem less stringent from a disciplinary perspective."

The French president considered that this attire "solves many issues (...) First: secularism, and second: provides some modesty, as we do not want overly extravagant clothing."
