The Head of the Republic of Dagestan, Russia, Sergey Melikov, confirmed that the riots that took place at Makhachkala Airport, the capital of the republic, yesterday Sunday, were incited and directed externally by Ukraine.

He added that Dagestan's opponents abroad tried, through the "Sabah Dagestan" channel on "Telegram," to destabilize the situation in the country by encouraging the republic's residents to participate in the riots that were managed from Ukraine.

He also confirmed that "the Dagestani people sympathize with the victims of the oppressors and politicians and call for peace in Palestine," but what happened at the airport was a blatant violation of the law, emphasizing that the situation will be assessed by the concerned authorities and appropriate measures will be taken in this regard.

He added that the participants in the riots "stabbed in the back those who sacrificed their lives defending the republic against terrorism in 1999, and those who are today on the front lines of the Russian military operation in Ukraine defending the larger homeland."

Melikov also touched on the state of the airport infrastructure after the riots, noting that the facilities of Building B (International Departure Hall) and Building A (Domestic Airlines Terminal) were not damaged.

Melikov pointed out that the airport will resume operations within two to three days, including international flights "to compensate for Sunday's events as soon as possible," noting that a criminal case has been filed in this regard.

He confirmed that the situation in Dagestan is stable and calm and that all those involved in these actions will be punished without exception.

Today, the Russian Air Transport Authority announced the resumption of Makhachkala Airport in the Republic of Dagestan to receive incoming flights starting from early tomorrow, following the events witnessed as a "protest against the arrival of a plane from Israel."
