King Charles III issued his first statement today, Thursday, after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, who died in Scotland at the age of 96, surrounded by all her family.
King Charles said: "The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty the Queen, is a moment of great sorrow for me and all the members of my family. We deeply mourn the death of the dear Sovereign and a very beloved mother."
The statement issued by the king also said: "I know that her loss will be deeply felt across the country, the Commonwealth worlds, and by countless people around the world."
The king also continued, saying: "During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will find comfort and sustainability in our knowledge of the widespread respect and deep affection afforded to the Queen."
Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning British monarch, head of Canada, and the rock of stability through much of the troubled century, died today, Thursday, after 70 years on the throne.
