The Libyan Attorney General, Siddiq Al-Sour, announced the opening of an investigation into the disaster of the Darna dam collapse, pledging to hold those responsible accountable, while authorities revealed measures to isolate the areas affected by the floods.

In a press conference with the Prime Minister appointed by the parliament, Al-Sour indicated that the investigations are focused on the funds allocated for the maintenance of the dams, confirming that reports revealed cracks in them and their need for maintenance.

Meanwhile, the Libyan Prime Minister appointed by the parliament, Osama Hamad, stated that the authorities intend to take precautionary measures that may include isolating the affected areas in Darna from other regions.

The heavy rains resulting from the Mediterranean storm "Daniel" caused deadly floods and torrents in eastern Libya at the beginning of last week. The floods inundated two dams, leading to a surge of water several meters high through the center of Darna, resulting in the destruction of entire neighborhoods and sweeping people out to sea.

The spokesperson for the Libyan army, Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari, confirmed that "Cyclone Daniel" affected more than one million people.

He added that main and secondary roads in the Green Mountain areas of the country have been cut off due to floods. During a press conference addressing the latest developments regarding the flood disaster, Al-Mismari said that there are areas in the Green Mountain that have been totally destroyed by the torrents.

 11,300 dead and 10,000 missing

On another note, the Libyan Red Crescent announced that the death toll from the Darna floods has risen to more than 11,300.

The International Red Cross stated in a statement to Sky News Arabia today, Saturday, that "there are more than 10,000 missing in Darna."

The International Red Cross pointed out in its statement to Sky News Arabia that "random mass burials in Libya are hindering relief efforts."

The International Red Cross emphasized that "there is an urgent need to provide safe shelters for the affected people in Libya."
