Environment Canada is asking residents of Ottawa to prepare for hot and humid weather starting today, Monday, as temperatures are expected to exceed 30 degrees Celsius.

The anticipated heat wave is likely to last until Friday, according to the meteorological agency's website.

Environment Canada also stated: "Beware of heat-related impacts such as heat exhaustion and/or heat stroke, and remember to drink plenty of water."

Monday's forecasts indicate that the maximum temperature will reach 30 degrees Celsius and the minimum will be 20 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures rising to 33 degrees Celsius on Thursday, and the city will experience 31 degrees Celsius on Friday.

The highest temperature recorded on June 17 was 34.2 degrees Celsius in 1994, with an average maximum temperature on the same day of 24 degrees Celsius.

Ottawa broke the record for high temperatures on June 5, a record set nearly 60 years ago, as the temperature reached 31 degrees Celsius.

According to Ottawa Public Health (OPH), extreme heat affects children, individuals with chronic illnesses, and the elderly more than others, noting that extreme heat can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat strokes, and sunburns.
