At least 40 people were killed on Wednesday in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state, due to airstrikes carried out by the army that targeted two popular markets and residential neighborhoods amid ongoing fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, according to witnesses and a medical source.
Last month, more than 50,000 people fled from Nyala, Sudan's second largest city by population after the capital, due to the continued war and after an airstrike by the army on civilian homes resulted in the death of 39 people.
