The American administration expressed its concern over the recent rise in tension between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah.
Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, said during a press briefing on Tuesday that they are concerned about messages from Israeli military officials indicating they are ready to attack Hezbollah, and about the escalating tensions in the region, according to what was reported by the Anadolu Agency.
He added: "We do not support a full-scale war with Hezbollah, and the rising tension in this conflict worries us, and we have been trying to keep it under control since October 7."
He emphasized that no one wants a regional conflict atmosphere while efforts are being made to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, pointing out that the tension between Israel and Lebanon, which escalates from time to time, cannot be resolved through conflict, and that "issues should only be resolved through diplomatic means."
On Tuesday, the Lebanese newspaper "An-Nahar," close to Hezbollah, reported from unnamed sources that "the majority of international envoys to Beirut are conveying their concerns about the seriousness of the Israeli threat" to wage war on Lebanon.
The Lebanese newspaper added that "the most significant messages were received from the British side, which set a date for the Israeli strike in mid-June."
The Chief of Staff of the Israeli army, Herzi Halevi, stated that his army is "very prepared" to attack Hezbollah in Lebanon and is "nearing the point where this decision must be made."
Since Sunday, settlements and towns in northern Israel have been experiencing numerous fires due to Hezbollah launching rockets and explosive drones from Lebanon, which have been exacerbated by the hot weather currently affecting the region.
