Statistics Canada: Manufacturing industries witness a 1.2% increase

The Canadian Statistics Agency said that manufacturing sales rose by 1.2 percent as sales reached 71.7 billion dollars in November, supported by increased sales in the chemical sub-sector along with gains in the primary metals and machinery groups. 

C hemical product sales also rose by 6.6 percent, while primary metal product sales increased by 4.0 percent and machinery sales increased by 4.3 percent during the month. Auto sales dropped by 4.0 percent, at constant dollar value, manufacturing sales rose by 1.6 percent in November.

In a separate report, the Canadian Statistics Agency said that wholesale sales, excluding oil, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding sales of oilseeds and grains, increased by 0.9 percent to 82.5 billion dollars in November.

Wholesale sales rose in four of the seven sub-sectors, led by the auto and auto parts and accessories sub-sector which increased by 3.3 percent, and the building materials and supplies sub-sector which rose by 1.8 percent. In terms of volume, wholesale sales, excluding oil, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseeds and grains, rose by 0.6 percent in November.

The Canadian Statistics Agency began including the oilseeds and grains manufacturing group along with the oil and petroleum products sub-sector as part of wholesale trade last year, but excludes the data from its monthly analysis until historical data is available for appropriate monthly and annual analysis.
