Alberta: Renewable energy sources do not pose a threat to agriculture and the environment

Renewable energy sources are considered a title for environmental preservation and the return of the earthly nature to its natural state in terms of reducing carbon emissions, which helps agricultural development and maintaining the cleanliness of the environment we live in Canada, which carries out many renewable energy projects within the different territories ,  in coordination with that, the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) issued a report yesterday stating that the development of renewable energy sources does not pose a significant threat to agriculture or the environment.

The commission also confirms in its report that there is no consensus on the landscapes that should be protected for their panoramic value.

The Alberta government had requested the commission to prepare this report as part of its decision to halt approvals for renewable energy projects in the province.

The commission adds that land reclamation occupied by the renewable energy industry and pollution removal from it is a less risky process compared to lands occupied by other industries.

The United Conservative Party (UCP) government in Edmonton ended this freeze last month by imposing major restrictions on renewable energy projects, especially by preventing their development in areas containing ''pristine landscapes''.

The government of Danielle Smith expressed concern that wind farms, consisting of wind turbines, and solar farms, which include photovoltaic panels, could encroach on high-quality agricultural lands.

However, the Utilities Commission report indicates that despite the rapid growth of renewable energy projects in Alberta, these projects will occupy less than 1% of the province's agricultural lands by 2041.

The commission concludes that there is no consensus on what constitutes ''pristine landscapes'', but adds that the application process can include a form of consultation with local communities.

It is noteworthy that the Utilities Commission is a quasi-judicial body, meaning it has many of the powers that a legal court has.
