Speedskater Isabelle Weidemann was chosen as Canada's flag bearer at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics tomorrow, Sunday.
The 26-year-old athlete from Ottawa won a full set of medals in Beijing.
Weidemann, Ivanie Blondin, and Valerie Maltais also won the gold medal in the team events.
Weidemann also won the silver medal in the 5000 meters and the bronze in the 3000 meters.
Weidemann said in a statement, "It is a great honor to carry the Canadian flag at the closing ceremony."
Adding, "It was just a crazy end to such a wonderful week. I am very proud to be a member of this team."
Weidemann has become the second Canadian long track speed skater to win more than two medals at a single Winter Games.
It is worth mentioning that Cindy Klassen had won five medals in 2006.
Katriona Le May Doan, head of Team Canada, said in a statement: "Not only did (Weidemann) deliver a stunning performance on the ice, but she was also a great teammate through her support and positive attitude before, during, and after competition."
Adding, "Not all athletes are able to stay grounded to celebrate this successful 2022 Games, but I am confident that Isabelle represents our Canadian values and the qualities that every Team Canada member showed on and off the field of play in Beijing."
