The raccoon animal" behind the power outage in downtown Toronto

According to press sources, thousands of Toronto Hydro customers experienced a power outage last night thanks to a raccoon that reached Hydro One equipment at a downtown station.

The outage began around 7:40 PM. But all power was restored by around 10:20 PM, according to Toronto Hydro.

At about 9:30 PM, around 7,000 Toronto Hydro customers were affected.

The company said customers within the following boundaries were impacted: St. Clair Avenue West to Gerrard Street West and Avenue Road to Don Valley Parkway.

Hydro One said on X, formerly Twitter, that the outage was in its transmission system, which affects Toronto Hydro.

According to Hydro One’s statement, work crews found that the raccoon had reached its equipment at a station in downtown Toronto.

Meanwhile, Toronto Fire services said on X that it responded to elevator rescue operations in about seven buildings. No injuries were reported.
