A man from the Canadian province of Quebec has been delivered to U.S. authorities to face charges of human smuggling, following the drowning of a pregnant Mexican woman during her attempt to illegally cross the border from Canada to the United States.

On December 14, 2023, the body of Ana Vasquez-Flores, 33 years old, was found in the Great Chazy River, south of the Canadian border. This came two days after her husband informed U.S. authorities that she was missing while attempting to cross illegally.
