Workers at Airbus SE in Canada who manufacture the A220 single-aisle aircraft rejected a proposed work agreement in principle yesterday Sunday, which was the third offer made during negotiations.
Eric Rankort, spokesperson for the local unit of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, said in a press statement: "We thought we had met the expectations of our members, but that wasn't the case," according to Bloomberg News.
He added: "We will contact the employer soon to discuss the next steps."
The proposed agreement suggested a five-year contract, retroactive to December 2, 2023, guaranteeing salary increases of 8%, 3%, 3%, 4%, and 4% annually, along with other benefits.
About 75% of union members voted, with 68.15% saying no to the agreement. There are approximately 1,300 workers out of 3,000 at the Mirabel plant near Montreal represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
