Ontario Provincial Police in Ottawa remind residents that it is illegal to walk or ride bicycles on Highway 417 following multiple reports of pedestrians along the highway this week.
Many pedestrians told responding police officers that they were directed to the highway using the GPS on their phones for directions.
When using GPS, set the directions to walking mode instead of driving mode."
Ontario Provincial Police said on social media.
Under the Highway Traffic Act, it is illegal for pedestrians or cyclists to be on highways of the 400 series, as well as on ramps leading to or from them.
Ontario Provincial Police say, "Walking and cycling along the highway is extremely dangerous and can result in serious injury or worse."
