The Ottawa Police announced a call for support from other jurisdictions to help monitor Canada Day celebrations.
Dozens of thousands of people are expected to attend Canada Day events at LeBreton Flats and at other locations throughout Ottawa, including parties in Barrhaven and Kanata.
Ottawa Police Deputy Chief Steve Bell said officers from several jurisdictions will be in Ottawa to help ensure that Canada's 157th birthday will be safe.
Bell told the Ottawa Police Services Board that the main focus of our service is Canada Day, as tens of thousands of people come to Ottawa to celebrate this great day.
"Right now, preparations are underway for our role in safety and security with events taking place at five locations across Ottawa. We have requested assistance from police from many police services across the province and the country, including the RCMP, OPP, and Waterloo Police."
Bell says that the Ottawa Police will have a presence at LeBreton Flats and at the other events in Ottawa.
Bell said yesterday, Monday: "On Canada Day, hundreds of officers will be deployed to ensure public safety in our community."
"We encourage people to plan their routes in advance, monitor the weather, and plan accordingly."
