Expectations of increased military presence in Northern and Central Ontario

Military traffic on the main highways in Northern and Central Ontario is expected to increase on Sunday, August 18, and again on August 27.

Members and vehicles of the Canadian Army Reserve from across the 4th Canadian Division will conduct convoy operations as they travel to and from Exercise Stalwart Guardian, a major annual field exercise for the Canadian Army, taking place this year at the 4th Canadian Division training center in Meaford, Ontario, from August 18 to 27.

"The 33 Canadian Brigade Group said on social media: ""Hundreds of infantry soldiers and support personnel from the Canadian Army will gather at the 4th Canadian Division training center for an extended period of simulated combat operations.

The operations will be led by the 33 Canadian Brigade, based in Ottawa, and will include soldiers from the 32 Canadian Brigade Group based in Toronto.

Officials from the Canadian Army stated: ""The public may see an increase in military traffic as Canadian Army vehicles travel along various roads in the area, including Highways 400, 401, 407, 410, 416, 417, 115, 69, 11, 10, and others.""

"This military traffic will follow pre-planned routes between the Greater Toronto Area, Peterborough, Brockville, Kingston, Belleville, Sudbury, (opens in new tab), North Bay, (opens in new tab), Cornwall, Ottawa, and will pass through Barrie, Orillia, Huntsville, Collingwood, Parry Sound, Bancroft, and other locations en route to Meaford."
