Ontario police announced yesterday, Monday, the arrest of a 40-year-old man from Montreal on Thursday of last week, in connection with the drop of a drone carrying contraband materials in Millhaven prison in Ontario, authorities reported.

According to a statement from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers were aware of the incident on the evening of May 9 at around 7:30 PM, and the suspect was apprehended shortly thereafter.

The police say they found him at 9 PM on a nearby road and halted traffic; he was alone in a rental car from Quebec.

A statement from the public prosecutor indicated that a search of the vehicle revealed five mobile phones and a receipt containing details of SIM card purchases and activation of SIM cards.
The package that was dropped onto the prison grounds included a mobile phone, marijuana, and tobacco.

The man was arrested and charged with distributing more than 30 grams of marijuana, harm, conspiracy to commit a criminal offense, and delivering contraband to
an inmate.

OPP states that the accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice to continue the judicial proceedings later.
