In the face of threats from elected President Donald Trump to annex Canada to the United States, Ontario Premier Doug Ford presents the strength of the province's energy supply as a means to generate revenue and create jobs on both sides of the border.
Ford asserted that Ontario is in a unique position to provide nuclear energy, hydroelectric power, and renewable energy, which enhances cooperation between Canada and the United States. He pointed out the necessity of strengthening the shared energy grid between the two countries.
The American threats come at a sensitive time, as Trump had threatened to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian and Mexican goods, which could particularly impact Ontario due to the enormous bilateral trade with the United States.
