McGill University is asking people not to use the central entrance of its downtown campus via Roddick Gates on Sherbrooke Street due to two imminent protests on Thursday.
"The police informed McGill Security that SPVM received information about a protest headed to our downtown campus," according to an internal memo from the university, "the police have mobilized their officers and spoke with individuals at the camp and at the protest."
This comes as Jewish groups say they are planning to launch a counter-protest at the pro-Palestinian camp at 12:30 PM. near Roddick Gates.
A poster shared on social media called on people to "demand that McGill University enforce its policies and stand against anti-Semitism on campus, and it won't happen again now."
Additionally, a counter-protest is also scheduled for 11:30 AM at Roddick Gates by groups supporting the pro-Palestinian camp.
The pro-Palestinian camp has been set up in the McGill lower campus since last weekend, demanding that the university withdraw funds that they claim are linked to Israel.
They also say they want the university to sever academic ties with Israeli institutions and condemn the Israeli attack on Gaza following the Hamas attack on October 7.
The Israeli attack has resulted in the deaths of over 34,000 Palestinians, according to the local health ministry.
The camp in Montreal is one of a wave of similar protests on university campuses in the United States related to the war between Israel and Hamas.
