King Charles III promised on Friday, September 9, 2022, to serve the British people throughout his life, renewing the commitment made by his late mother Queen Elizabeth II on her twenty-first birthday.

Charles said in his first televised speech as king: "I renew before you this commitment to serve throughout my life," describing Elizabeth II as "an inspiration and an example" to him and his family.

King Charles III said he would carry "Queen Elizabeth's legacy" with him.

In his first address to the British people, the new king affirmed that he is "proud of the prosperity achieved in Britain, and our values will remain steadfast." He added: "I will do everything in my power to defend our country's constitution."

King Charles III announced that "Prince William will take on the responsibilities I have carried for five decades."

He mentioned that he is proud that "William has become Prince of Wales," clarifying that "Catherine (William's wife) will be Princess of Wales." In this context, King Charles expressed his love for his son Prince Harry and his wife Meghan.
