A woman and her child were killed today, Wednesday, as a result of an Israeli strike targeting a town in southern Lebanon, according to the National News Agency and a medical source.

The agency reported targeting "enemy warplanes the Al-Masha' neighborhood in the town of Majdal Zoun," noting "the martyrdom of a civilian and her daughter being critically injured."

Later, a medical source who refused to be named told Agence France-Presse that the child was killed.

The border between Lebanon and Israel is witnessing escalation between Hezbollah and the Israeli army, coinciding with the Gaza war.

Hezbollah announces targeting Israeli espionage sites and military gatherings in support of Gaza, and the Israeli army responds with air and artillery bombardment, saying it targets the party's "infrastructure" and fighter movements near the border.

Hezbollah announced in successive statements on Wednesday that it targeted several Israeli points, including two buildings where Israeli soldiers are stationed, as "a response to Israeli attacks on southern villages and civilian homes."

Since the escalation began, 271 people have been killed in Lebanon, including 188 Hezbollah members and 42 civilians, among them 3 journalists, according to a tally collected by Agence France-Presse.

In Israel, the army counted the deaths of 10 soldiers and 6 civilians.
