The Jordanian monarch, King Abdullah II, warned during his meeting with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the capital Amman today, Sunday, of the continuation of the war on Gaza during the month of Ramadan, which will increase the risk of the conflict expanding.
King Abdullah II affirmed, in the presence of Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the necessity of exerting utmost efforts to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and to protect innocent civilians, pointing out that Jordan will continue to provide humanitarian, relief, and medical aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip.
The Jordanian monarch warned of the dangers of stopping international support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), as well as the danger of the Israeli plan to attack Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip.
King of Jordan also warned of Israeli escalation in the West Bank, and what extremist settlers practice against Palestinians, and violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
The Jordanian monarch reiterated Jordan's rejection of any attempts to separate the West Bank and Gaza Strip, which form an extension of the one Palestinian state.
He stressed maintaining Arab coordination in the upcoming period to find a just solution to the Palestinian cause on the basis of the two-state solution.
For his part, the Palestinian president reviewed the developments taking place in the West Bank and Jerusalem, stressing the continuation of close coordination and consultation between the two sides, serving the Palestinian cause and protecting the holy sites.
Abbas appreciated Jordan's firm positions led by King Abdullah II, affirming the necessity to stop the war on Gaza, protect civilians, and calling on the whole world to bear its responsibilities towards protecting the Palestinian people, praising the king's efforts "to alleviate the suffering of the families in the Gaza Strip due to what they are exposed to from brutal aggression."
The meeting was attended by the Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, the King's Office Director, Dr. Jaafar Hassan, and the Director of Jordanian Intelligence, Major General Ahmad Husni.
It was also attended on the Palestinian side by the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization Hussein Al-Sheikh, the Head of the General Intelligence Service Major General Majid Faraj, the President's Adviser for Diplomatic Affairs Majdi Al-Khaldi, and the Palestinian Ambassador to Jordan Attallah Khairi.
For his part, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi said that what is happening in the Gaza Strip now is a crime against humanity in all its aspects, affirming Jordan's continued significant pressure to allow adequate aid entry into the Gaza Strip and to stop this aggression immediately.
Safadi warned during a joint press conference with his Bulgarian counterpart Maria Gabriel earlier today, Sunday, that the continuation of the aggression under these circumstances at the doorstep of Ramadan would place the entire region at risk of the war expanding and the regional situation erupting in general, saying: "There is no time to lose and every day that passes as the war continues increases the risk of its eruption and also increases the number of its victims."
The Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said that Jordan and Bulgaria agree that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve security, peace, and stability in the region, adding: "We work with the international community and ask our friends in the international community to take immediate action to end this war."
For her part, the Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs said that Jordan has proven itself as a peacemaker in the region, and they support its efforts to have a peace plan to save lives because every day is important. She expressed her country's concern about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and also seeks to enable access for humanitarian workers as well as implement the two-state solution.
Gabriel stressed that her visit to Jordan is a message to strengthen political dialogue between Jordan and Bulgaria, to enhance strategic cooperation fields, and to coordinate efforts to provide solutions to regional and global challenges. She said: "We remain united in values like peace and solidarity," remarking that Jordan and Bulgaria are committed to enhancing political dialogue and having political consultations this year as soon as possible.
