Jordanian King Abdullah II affirmed the necessity of reaching an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and protecting unarmed civilians.

This came during a phone call the Jordanian king received from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday, according to a statement from the Royal Court.

King Abdullah II emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to ensure sufficient and sustainable delivery of humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip, expressing his appreciation for Canada’s efforts in providing aid to the sector.

King Abdullah II also confirmed the important role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in providing assistance to more than two million Palestinians in Gaza, which necessitates continued support to enable it to continue providing its services according to its UN mandate.

He warned against the continued Israeli escalation in the West Bank and Jerusalem, which may lead to the situation getting out of control and the outbreak of unrest in the region.

The Jordanian king renewed his affirmation of the necessity to find a political horizon for the Palestinian issue to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, noting that the region will not enjoy stability unless the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is resolved.
