US President Joe Biden expressed his solidarity yesterday, Wednesday, with Iranian women while reports indicated the death of eight people in Iran since the outbreak of protests condemning the death of Mahsa Amini after she was detained by the "morality police".

In his speech before the General Assembly from the United Nations podium shortly after the speech of his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi, Biden saluted the protesters and confirmed his support to revive the nuclear deal with Tehran.

The US president said: "We stand with the brave people of Iran and the brave Iranian women, who are protesting today to defend their most basic rights."

Popular anger erupted in the streets after the authorities announced on Friday the death of the 22-year-old woman from the Kurdistan region in northwest Iran, who was arrested on September 13 in Tehran for allegedly wearing "improper clothing".

Activists say Mahsa was hit on the head during her detention, which Iranian authorities deny, stating they have opened an investigation into the incident.

Last night, many internet users in Iran faced difficulties communicating via social networks. The "NetBlocks" internet outage monitoring observatory, Hengaw organization, and local residents reported that the authorities imposed internet restrictions.
