Inter Milan club announced today the signing of Tajon Buchanan coming from Club Brugge of Belgium, thus becoming the first Canadian player to participate in the Italian first division football league.
Italian media reports stated that Buchanan (24 years old) signed a contract for four and a half years in a deal estimated at seven million euros, in addition to an extra three million euros in bonuses.
Buchanan participated in 35 matches with the Canadian national team and started in all three matches of the team in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Buchanan played in 12 league matches this season with Club Brugge, scoring two goals during this period.
Buchanan said in statements to the Inter Milan website, "I am really proud to be the first Canadian to play in the Italian league, this is a huge achievement that makes me very proud. I have been following Inter Milan for a long time, it is a team I see myself in. I am really excited about what awaits me."
Inter Milan leads the Italian league table by two points over Juventus and hosts Hellas Verona today, Saturday.
