Four people were injured and taken to the hospital in stable condition after a fire damaged some homes and led to their evacuation in the southern part of Ottawa on Saturday.
Ottawa fire services battled the fire at 150 Somero Private off Tabbyola Crescent, and at one point, it was necessary to "evacuate firefighters from the building" as part of the structure began to collapse, according to a social media update.
By 12:43 PM, fire services confirmed that all occupants of the building had been checked to ensure everyone's safety.
Four units were involved in the fire, and the Canadian Red Cross and military will assist those affected by the incident, according to the fire department.
Ottawa paramedics told CBC that four people were taken to the hospital, where two men suffered from smoke inhalation, while a late-teen female and an early-teen female sustained lacerations. All are in stable condition, and the fire was reported to be under control by 1:27 PM.
