A local official in civil defense and official Lebanese media confirmed that four civilians, including three children, were killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on Sunday evening.
The Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee said in a statement on the X website, formerly known as Twitter, that an Israeli was also killed on Sunday in an attack carried out by the Lebanese Hezbollah group. He did not specify whether the person was a civilian or a soldier.
The tense border between Lebanon and Israel has witnessed clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants and their allies for nearly a month since the war between Hamas and Israel began. While the clashes have largely remained confined to areas near the border, they have intensified as Israel continues its ground incursions in Gaza.
The state-run National News Agency in Lebanon reported that two civilian cars carrying members of one family - one of them a local journalist - were traveling between the towns of Ainata and Ayta al-Shaab on Sunday evening when they were targeted by an Israeli airstrike.
The report stated that one of the cars was directly hit and caught fire. It added that a woman and three children aged 10, 12, and 14 were killed and others were injured.
Ali Safiuddin, head of civil defense in the Tyre district in southern Lebanon, confirmed the death of a woman and three children without providing further details.
No immediate comment was issued by the Israeli army or Hezbollah on the incident.
Earlier on Sunday, local Lebanese officials said an Israeli drone struck near two ambulances on their way to transport the wounded from night raids in southern Lebanon, injuring four paramedics.
The Israeli army stated in a statement that it had struck a "terrorist cell" that was trying to launch rockets towards Israel from the Ras al-Naqoura area in southern Lebanon and did not intentionally target the vehicles.
Also on Sunday, Hezbollah said in a statement that it targeted an Israeli military vehicle across the border from the Lebanese town of al-Bilida with guided missiles on Sunday, killing and injuring members of its crew.
With the death of the woman and three children, the number of civilians killed on the Lebanese side in border clashes rises to 14, while at least one Israeli civilian has been killed.
Hezbollah officials warned that if Israel kills Lebanese civilians, it will be considered a violation of the rules of engagement and they will retaliate by attacking civilian targets.
