Hundreds went out to protest in the Le Plateau-Mont-Royal neighborhood in Montreal; protesting against Quebec Housing Bill 31 in the province, where any request to transfer a lease will be rejected; landlords and housing units will be allowed to have the right to refuse, which will be a reason to cancel leases, in case the new law is adopted and approved.

Cadric Dussault, spokesperson for the group representing tenant associations in Quebec, said that tenants in Quebec are feeling pressured, and we demanded solutions to this situation and called for the appointment of a Minister of Housing who works seriously and looks into the suffering of people and finds solutions in response to the increasing suffering of tenants in Quebec, where there were calls to dismiss Quebec’s Minister of Housing "France Hélène Durandau."

This is what RCLALQ, which supports affected tenants, called for, condemning recent statements by officials and politicians in Quebec who referred to linking the relationship between the housing crisis
and the increasing number of immigrants.

Notably, a recent report issued by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation indicated a decline in vacancy rates in Quebec, from 1.7% in 2022 to 1.3% in the past year 2023, which is considered the lowest rate in two decades.

The report also indicated a 13% decline in the construction of rental housing units in 2022, reaching as much as 28% in 2023.
