Takeshi Kasai, the WHO Regional Director, stated today, Wednesday, that the situation is catastrophic in the Gaza Strip and the number of workers in medical institutions has dropped to 5%.
Kasai said in a press conference that about 660 attacks on health institutions have been recorded, nearly half of them in northern Gaza, and the attacks on health institutions constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, noting that targeting continues along with the cutting off of medical supplies and fuel.
Takeshi Kasai added that we face challenges in reaching hospitals in northern Gaza, our appeals go unheard, and patients are dying due to lack of medicines, confirming that there is no solution except an immediate stop to the assaults and opening more than one crossing to pass support.
The Israeli occupation continues its aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7th until today, the 109th day, in response to the Al-Aqsa Flood operation. The Israeli aggression has resulted in more than 25,000 martyrs and thousands of injured and missing.
The World Health Organization confirmed that hundreds of thousands in northern Gaza and throughout the sector are still deprived of aid, affirming that 7 out of 24 hospitals operate partially in northern Gaza and suffer from a shortage of staff, supplies, and fuel.
On the other hand, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees («UNRWA») confirmed the closure of all its schools in the Gaza Strip, thereby depriving 300,000 children of education within the sector.
The Refugee organization reported that education has been destroyed in the Gaza Strip since the onset of hostilities, depriving more than 625,000 students and 22,000 teachers of education.
Earlier, the United Nations agency «UNRWA» announced on Sunday, January 14, 2024, through a post on the X site, that the ongoing humanitarian crisis resulting from the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has led to the martyrdom of nearly 24,000 Palestinians and the displacement of nearly two million others, represents one of the "most complex and challenging" operations in the world.
