German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is heading to Canada on an official four-day visit, and the Governor General Mary Simon in Ottawa welcomes Steinmeier at 5:45 local time / 11:45 PM Central European Time. Preliminary talks will be held with the president Steinmeier. A meeting is scheduled between Steinmeier and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau next Monday. The following day, Steinmeier intends to visit a fuel cell factory in Vancouver, among other things, and take a look at a pilot plant for smart energy systems. Steinmeier is accompanied on his trip by his wife Elke Büdenbender and a large trade delegation. German Minister of Education and Research, Bettina Stark-Watzinger (Free Democratic Party), will also participate in the trip. The trip ends next Wednesday with a visit to the far north of the country, where Steinmeier wants to learn more about the already evident consequences of climate change there. These consequences appear, for example, in the thawing of permafrost. After doing this, the president will fly to the town of Tuktoyaktuk, in the northern Arctic Circle, which has no more than 900 inhabitants.
