More than 300 people have died in the floods that swept through Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, and Uganda, as heavy rains that hit East Africa show no signs of stopping.

In Kenya alone, 169 people have been killed so far, according to the government spokesman on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Cabinet in Nairobi held an extraordinary session to discuss measures to combat the deadly floods and the disasters associated with them.

During a visit to "Mai Mahiu" in the Rift Valley region, where about 50 people died on Monday following a dam collapse, and while 26 people are still missing, Kenyan President William Ruto stated that residents in flood-prone or landslide-prone areas must be moved to safe areas within 48 hours.

Further heavy rains are expected over the next seven days in Kenya, according to the National Meteorological Agency. The continuous rains not only raise water levels in rivers but also expand the Great Lakes in East Africa.

Roads have been closed and crossing bridges has become impossible, hampering the transport of goods between countries in the region, such as those between Uganda and Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In Tanzania, coastal areas are particularly at risk, as they are not only facing rain but also strong thunderstorms and high waves.

At the same time, in inland areas, landslides have occurred frequently in recent days in Arusha and Manyara, which are popular starting points for safari trips.
