The Finnish energy company Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) announced in a statement today, Sunday, the extension of the shutdown of the largest nuclear reactor in Europe for annual maintenance until May 8 due to "technical problems".
The statement indicated that the extension of the shutdown of the Olkiluoto-3 nuclear reactor for four days is the sixth postponement in bringing the reactor back online, according to Bloomberg News Agency.
The statement added that the planned shutdown began in early March and was scheduled to end on April 8.
A separate statement said that the shutdown of the Olkiluoto-3 reactor will overlap with the shutdown of the Olkiluoto-2 reactor, which ceased operations today, Sunday, for more than a week to also allow for maintenance work.
It is noteworthy that the Olkiluoto-3 reactor, with a capacity of 1600 megawatts, was commissioned on the west coast of Finland last year.
