The Israeli army stated in a statement on Wednesday that it expects the incursion operation in the Rafah area, in the far south of the Gaza Strip, to end in late June.

A military source confirmed that the upcoming stages of the battle in the Gaza Strip will be tactical and involve campaigns in specific areas.

Almost a month after the ground assault began on the city of Rafah, adjacent to Egypt in the southern part of the Palestinian territory, which Israel claims is the final phase of its war on Hamas, the fighting has concentrated in recent days in the center of the strip, where the Israeli army targeted areas in central Gaza with airstrikes and artillery shelling on Wednesday.

A strike hit an area near the entrance to the Al-Bureij camp, and artillery shelling in southeast Deir al-Balah resulted in several casualties, according to eyewitnesses.

On Wednesday, Palestinian refugees fled from Al-Bureij, carrying their few belongings in carts or on wheelchairs in a difficult mission to seek a safe place.

The Israeli army confirmed that it is carrying out operations in the areas of Al-Bureij and Deir al-Balah, indicating in a statement that it has eliminated a number of Hamas members.

Moreover, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Food Program stated in a joint report that more than a million people in Palestine face the risk of catastrophic famine and death by mid-July.

The report indicated that among the countries most vulnerable to famine, alongside Palestine, are Mali, South Sudan, and Sudan. The Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Food Program expect that severe food insecurity will worsen in 17 countries and regions by October 2024.
