Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with the emergency response group last Thursday evening to discuss the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah and asked his fellow citizens in Lebanon to leave the country.
The Prime Minister's Office indicated in a statement that the meeting discussed the changing situation in the Middle East, especially the "growing risk of escalation" on the border between Israel and Lebanon.
Trudeau also emphasized the "urgent need for Canadians to leave Lebanon while commercial travel options are available."
The meeting took place on the same day that Hezbollah launched more than two hundred missiles and drones at five Israeli military posts in northern Israel in response to the assassination of military commander
in Hezbollah Mohamed Naeem Nasser.
Canada may be preparing to evacuate up to 45,000 people residing in Lebanon who hold Canadian citizenship.
