Christmas tree farms in Canada are experiencing an increasing demand for natural trees this year, driven by people's desire to celebrate traditionally with their families. However, these farms face many challenges, the most important of which is the impact of climate change that hinders the growth of trees, especially young seedlings with shallow roots that are easily affected by drought and flooding.

In recent years, heatwaves and prolonged drought, along with unusual frosts, have caused significant losses for farmers. For example, some farms in Ontario lost up to 40% of their crops due to drought between May and August. Additionally, rising temperatures have increased pest activity targeting weak trees, making the situation more difficult.

Moreover, the number of Christmas tree farms in Canada has significantly declined over the past decade due to the retirement of farmers and a lack of young labor. Statistics indicate a loss of about 20,000 acres of these farms between 2011 and 2021, equivalent to approximately 30 million trees.

To tackle these issues, farmers are urging buyers to purchase trees early, and some have begun diversifying their activities to include agritourism, such as organizing seasonal events, which helps improve their income and enhance farm sustainability in the face of climate challenges.
