Officials reported today, Sunday, that the daughter of a Russian nationalist ideologue often referred to as "Putin's brain," was killed when her car exploded in the suburbs of Moscow.
The Moscow region branch of the Investigative Committee said the explosion that occurred on Saturday night was caused by a bomb planted in the SUV driven by Darya Dugina.
The 29-year-old girl was the daughter of Alexander Dugin, one of the most prominent supporters of the ideology of the "Russian world" concept and a strong advocate for Russia sending troops to Ukraine.
On the other hand, Dugina's precise relationship with President Vladimir Putin is unclear, but the rhetoric from his writings and appearances on official Russian television often echoes, as he helped spread the concept of "Novorossiya" (New Russia) which Russia used to justify the annexation of Crimea and its support for separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine. He also promotes Russia as a strong state with traditional values and authoritarian leadership and scorns Western liberal values.
As for the victim, she expressed similar views to her father and appeared as a commentator on the national TV channel Tsargrad. She was also sanctioned by the United States in March for her role as editor-in-chief of the United World International website, a site the US described as a disinformation outlet.
However, although all accusations point to Ukrainian parties being involved in what happened to Darya, investigations are still ongoing.
