Air Canada announced the cancellation of Saturday's flight from Toronto to Tel Aviv "in response to the current developments in the region."

The flight was scheduled to leave Pearson International Airport at 4:25 PM. Air Canada stated on its website that it was canceled "due to government or regulatory restrictions beyond our control."

The airline said in a statement that it will continue to monitor the situation in the region and adjust its flight schedule accordingly. Air Canada operates four non-stop round-trip flights weekly from Toronto to Tel Aviv.

The cancellation comes hours after Iran launched dozens of drones and ballistic missiles toward Israel in an unprecedented attack.

The Israeli military stated that its air defenses were ready for the attack and that it is prepared to respond.

Earlier this week, Air Canada resumed its flights between Canada and Israel after a six-month hiatus due to the conflict in the Middle East.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a statement saying that Canada stands with Israel and condemns the Iranian air attack.

Trudeau said: “After supporting the brutal attack carried out by Hamas on October 7, the recent actions of the Iranian regime will further destabilize the region and make lasting peace more difficult.”

He added: "These attacks once again demonstrate the Iranian regime's disregard for peace and stability in the region; we support Israel's right to defend itself and its people from these attacks.”

The Prime Minister mentioned that he is receiving regular updates from senior officials and is in contact with his allies.

The federal government has urged Canadians to avoid travel to Israel due to the increasing risk of attacks.

Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly stated on social media on Friday: "With the increasing risk of attacks on Israeli territory, the regional security situation remains extremely volatile and could escalate without warning."

"Canadians should consider leaving by commercial means."
