The Canadian Ministry of Health announced today that the Canadian government does not believe that wholesale importation will be a solution to the high prices of medicines in the United States. This came after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration stated to Florida the importation of cheaper medicines from Canada due to the higher drug prices in the United States compared to Canada and other countries; where government-managed healthcare systems negotiate individual drug prices.
The Canadian Ministry of Health stated in its statement that the Canadian government is taking all measures to protect the drug supply process and ensure that Canadians receive the medicines they need as prescribed by their doctor.
The statement also pointed out that there are some rules that prevent the sale and circulation of certain medicines designated for circulation in the Canadian market for consumption outside Canada, if this affects the shortage of medicines in the Canadian market.
