The Government of Canada has issued a travel warning to several European destinations for various reasons.

The federal government updated travel guidelines and advice for Italy on June 4th of this year, 2024.

It indicated that visitors should exercise the utmost caution due to the threat of terrorism.

The government announcement in the warning stated that terrorists have carried out several attacks in various European cities.

Furthermore, more attacks are expected in several other locations in Europe, and attacks in Italy cannot be ruled out.

The government warning also specified that potential targets for terrorist operations

could include government buildings, places of worship, airports or other transportation centers, and public areas like tourist attractions, restaurants, bars, markets, and shopping centers.

The federal government also issued this warning for other popular European destinations such as Spain, Germany, and France.

The French government has raised the threat level within its Vigipirate plan, which is a set of measures to protect its citizens, infrastructure, and institutions in the event of terrorist attacks to its highest level.

It urged travelers to Paris for the Olympics from July 26 to August 11 and the Paralympics from August 28 to September 8 to expect increased security presence and personnel, significant traffic disruptions, and large crowds.

The Spanish government has a public alert system regarding terrorism, and its current level is four (high) on a scale of five.

The federal government is also concerned for travelers to Germany, advising that they should exercise caution, especially during the UEFA Euro 2024 Championship from June 14 to July 14 due to the threat of terrorism in the country, as well as the risk of theft and riots from fans during post-match celebrations.
