The Canadian government directed its citizens yesterday, Wednesday, to avoid traveling to Iraq due to fluctuations in the security situation.
Iraq is experiencing significant security developments, amid attacks by armed Iraqi factions against Israel, in support of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.
In 2020, the Canadian government urged its citizens to avoid travel to Iraq and to leave the country by commercial means, stating that there is an increasing threat of terrorist attacks and attacks against Western interests.
At that time, the Canadian government advised its citizens to "avoid traveling to Iraq due to the ongoing volatile and unpredictable security situation that is dangerous."
It also encouraged its citizens present in Iraq to consider leaving by commercial means if it was safe at the time.
